Ok so I have been doing a little bit of work in Ruby on Rails, I have been able to build a databaase, and then build a site to search it and then find stories relating to my search.

I want to take that database, connect it to Community Engine and then build a multimedia social networking site off of it.

I want to each user to be able to have a field where they can enter a URL that link to their vimeo accounta nd plays videos they have made. I also wnat to customize the photo gallery function to be more custom -- using jquery.

I know how to do all of these custom things. But will these custom things be doable with Community Engine as the base for the site? I have attempted to add a column to a table but i get an error -- and am unsure that I will be able to customize the database with my own needs.

Is it only possible to use CE plugins or can I adapt it with rilas gems and plugins too? I see there are official plugins but can i take teh vimeo plugin from guthub and add it to my CE based app?

Please let me know, this really looks like a better product that lovedbyless and tog and I'd like to build this out asap.
